I wonder if they really feel that they're going to suddenly light up internet downloads by siding with the Zune. You know, that "also-ran" that's just crossed the 2m threshold?

shit I own almost as many ipods as MS has sold Zunes in two years.

NBC is trying hard to wipe the egg off their face, but I think they are just now starting to really "get it," that being that what they want to charge is now what people want to pay, something Apple has sort of discovered.

You know, that thing called "Value."

I think the only way to drag NBC/Universal to its senses is for more and more people to go to their website and use the feedback feature (usually WAY at the bottom in very small type -- which says a lot about how they value feedback) and simply complain about their corporate stupidity.

I mean, how can NBC/Universal complain about Apple iTunes not having enough piracy protection and too-low prices then sell DRM-free music for less on Amazon? And how is Amazon's Unbox or anyone else's download service any more secure than iTunes? NBC/Universal needs to be made to answer those kind of questions by using all forums available: email. feedback, blogs, twitter, etc.

NBC/Universal seems much more focused on preventing the public from getting product to their televisions than they are on making money from it. With TiVo on satellite and cable systems, and the increasing number of HTPC owners with receivers like eyeTV, downloadable TV shows aren't ever going to be a limited supply item demanding a high price.

Re: Could Apple, NBC be patching up differences?
NBC seems to be symptomatic of the whole digital content state of confusion. Digital content (music, movies, tv shows, etc.) are forever here to stay in some format or form. Apple did a great job trying to keep things legal and move in the direction of a coherent and fair business model. Like 'em or not, (I happen to like 'em) Apple did the right thing and NBC is playing the role of the "fly in the ointment"... creating problems where there doesn't need to be any. Fair pricing (Apple), Availability (Apple), Functionality (Apple), the list goes on... Is there a model here? I think so. Lead, follow, or get the heck out of the way!

Well since the Zune store is unavailable outside of the US, therein lies the answer to your question. Since the Zune store is not available in the UK, NBC has no choice but to go with iTunes outside of USA. SImple really.

The visual quality of their mobile offerings leaves a great deal to be desired. The YouTube-ish fuzziness is unbearable.
