Re: Apple to sell HBO shows on iTunes

"HBO will be selling “The Sopranos,” “Sex and the City,” “Deadwood” and
“Rome,” as well as “Flight of the Conchords” and “The Wire.” The HBO
shows join the over 800 shows and 20,000 episodes already on iTunes."

Regrettably absent from the list is Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiam". Hopefully they will add what I consider one of the funniest shows out there. I also hope they sell the old HBO show "Dream On" -- very funny.

HBO has alot of original productions that could see the light of day again and generate a nice revenue stream having no current production costs and very low distribution costs via download. iTunes and other competitors stores would be ideal outlets to distribute those shows.

It will be interesting to see relative sales of the 1.99 vs 2.99 shows. HBO may be moved to drop the prices if The Wire significantly outpaces The Sopranos.

I bet they could do well with the John Adams miniseries.

With this, Apple TV gains yet a bit more credibility and more importantly, we see that Apple is willing to negotiate a variable price scheme. I would gander that NBC is about to make a comeback to iTunes, that is, if their ego permits them.

Re: Apple to sell HBO shows on iTunes
I wonder if HBO will offer their shows in HD. I am a big fan of some of their shows, but have no intention of purchasing anything other than HD quality (with DD 5.1 audio) shows.

If they don't, then I'll stick with my DVR and add hard drive space...

Cheers!

This is great news! I've been hoping for 2 years that this day would come. But, c'mon, HBO, where's the Big Love???
