Very coo, I'd like one, but the site (which has a Buy Now button) doesn't work.

Re: Universal battery charger debuts for Apple laptops
The Buy Now button is indeed a bit confusing because it does a page down and takes you to the bottom of the page from where you have to click another link to go to the store. Here's a direct link to purchase the item: http://store.fastmac.com/product_info.php?products_id=391

Thanks! Didn't notice that. You're right, it works now (just ordered it).

I can see the need for notebook-less battery charging, but, yikes! $70?!

@Jakecross You should price out other battery chargers & you will see that they cost $100 more AND are nowhere near as small or as versatile/ multi-function...

Re: Universal battery charger debuts for Apple laptops
Just curious, doesn't the word, "universal" when applied to a battery charger, mean that it works with all models? That is what I assumed when I read the article. Then I see that I need to buy two units to cover all Mac laptops. Maybe they should call it the SemiU-Charge. :-)

Re: Universal battery charger debuts for Apple laptops
My thought on reading the headline "Universal battery charger," was the device must apply to all Mac laptops. As a MacBook Air owner, I find the inaccuracy of the headline (and perhaps the manufacturer's description) glaring.

Re: Universal battery charger debuts for Apple laptops
@Podesta I think you're substituting "AC Adapter" or "Power Adapter" for "Charger" or using the 2 words interchangeably when Apple does not use them that way. Apple terminology (you can do a search on their online store) differentiates between the 2. They refer to the AC Adapter as Power Adapter and sell a Battery Charger separately- for $2200, but that's a another story!

You have a battery charger -- the AC adapter. The MacBook Air's battery is not removable, so this product is obviously not marketed towards you.

This will probably just seem an uninformed question , but anyway , what is the difference between this product and my Apple Power Adaptor ? Regardless of the different moniker , they both seem to do the same thing , charge the battery in my MacBook. Why should I prefer this to what I already have ?

Is the nanoparticle spike smoothing really significant?

No, actually, they don't. Take a closer look. This device charges your laptop's battery by connecting directly to the battery's leads. The Apple device plugs into the laptop's AC connector. This device can charge a battery independently of it being connected to a laptop; Apple's adapter can't.
