Waits for the DX version for $3.99 :P

This is a cool item, and I'll buy one when the 3G iPhone hits Australian shores :)

If this will be compatible with the 3G iPhone I'll get one. I saw mention of this product a while back on Griffin's site and thought it was pretty well done.

Cool, but illegal in California.

Nice Idea, however does not appear to work with either device using any of Griffen's cases?

No kidding! There are plans to ban the use of such devices (iPhones, et al) in vehicles here in Ontario, Canada.

How about eating while driving? Putting on makeup? Picking your nose? Talking to passengers? Car stereos? Adjusting your heat/AC? I mean good grief people, there are always going to be people who cannot multi-task responsibly and so we are going to reduce everything down to the lowest common denominator? Heck why don't we just ban vehicles altogether, then there is no chance of vehicle fatalities.

This is nice however, assuming the 3G phone has a real GPS w/ automobile compatible navigation software, my dream machine looks like a dash mount with a charging/ mini-stereo cable, and a built-in speaker.

The cable would charge the phone while playing music and the speaker would speak the driving directions and act like a hands-free phone. Unlike other GPS that get left in the car and invite break-ins, the iPhone would never get left on the dash as it would be in your pocket.

A unit like this would be worth money; I would pay north of $100 for these features.

The problem with most of those examples is that they're fundamentally different than talking on the phone. The difference with a phone in the car is that it's practically continuous. I, for one, do not spend more than a couple of seconds with the volume dial or adjusting the temperature, but on the phone, your attention is continuously concentrating on an activity located away from your immediate driving environment.

Hmmm, sounds like a personal decision on your, or others talking habits. I would love to have my phone ring, glance at the dash to see if I want to answer and then if I did, keep it short and sweet. Sounds safe to me. Government regulation cannot remove stupidity. There have been government regulated warnings on cigarettes for practically my whole life, yet...there you go.

FWIW, the California legislature is currently working on repealing that particular restriction.

Re: WindowSeat mounts iPhone, iPod touch on windshield

It's good news that California is working to repeal that inane restriction.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned, is the fact that windshield mounts are pretty useless in many modern aerodynamic cars, because the windshield is well beyond arm's length away. Unless the gizmo includes a telescoping 12-20" arm, users will be stretching to reach their device.
