And maybe, number three suggestion is to make it work flawlessly?

Got in and signed up right away at 8am PST Wednesday. I already had 2 Starbucks cards registered, so all I had to do was add the AT&T service.

Why don't they just do what every other coffee shop does and have free wifi without having to jump through these hoops? Don't worry Starbucks, people are going to buy stuff.

Every coffee shop I go to has free wifi. Strangely, the coffee is also cheaper.

Some people think what they write here is important. It isn't, and neither was that.

Unfortunately, everywhere I've been in Floriduh, they're charging for WiFi access, but I won't go to Starbucks unless they're in a book store. The concentrated "burnt" smell is just too much.

If McDonald's would start to offer free WiFi in a similar way, Starbucks might up the ante.

Every McDonalds here gives free Wifi... even in the crappiest parts of town.. although McDonalds can be independently owned and operated... the owners here obviously see the value.

I personally do not like Starbucks... and Satellite coffee and other places around here all give free Wifi.. so even if I drank coffee, i wouldn't go to starbucks if I can get free wifi at their neighbors house.

The women at Starbucks are much hotter than the women at McDonald's or the book store. ;)

Re: Starbucks can’t handle demand for free Wi-Fi
On the rare occasion I go to a Starbucks (not a fan of their coffee either but during the summer the Frappaccinos are great) I simply sit at a table and pop in my broadband modem and surf that way on a network I'm already paying. No need to give Starbucks more money.

But it would be nice if my iPhone worked free on it. I'm already paying AT&T for service.

WiFi access is free at Starbucks locations that have to compete with local coffee shops who offer free WiFi. Cities such as Austin or Portland will find you free WiFi at Starbucks, but their neighbors just down the road in Houston or Eugene will end up paying.
