Re: Dead MacBook?
I take it you removed the RAM, checked and cleaned them and reseated them. I also take it you don't hear any hard drive sound or get a picture on an external monitor. It's a little late to go back to the heat issues of early MacBooks without a warranty I would think. I can't help wonder if we will see more problems from those older hot MBs.
Hi
I didn't clean the connectors but I reseated the RAM sticks. I tried one by one as well but I can try cleaning them. No hard drive, no fan, no chime, no video, nothing except the MagSafe and battery LEDs indicating 'life'. I didn't try an external display but I can, I thought it pointless since there's nothing. Obviously, I can't reset PRAM since it doesn't do anything to get to that point.

Re: Dead MacBook?
I know this is old, but I just wanted to chime in with my story.
I have Black macbook 2nd Gen (purchased june 2007). A couple of days ago, it suddenly went completely dead while I was working on it. Absolutely nothing would bring it back to life - no hardware response at all. Similar to above, and one month out of warranty.
Basically apple genius said it was a logic board failure, and there was nothing I could do aside from paying like $1000 for a logic board replacement.
I can't afford that, or another computer. Completely shafted.
I feel your pain.
Hi
Well, if it helps any...The person got it repaired for ~$315 total. While I got quotes of $900+ from AASPs and Apple Stores, directly through Apple - 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) - I got ~$300 + shipping quote to have it sent to their TX repair center. Much more reasonable.
P.S. I forgot about updating the thread since I ended up going the only way left.
