No More Jaguar Blues

A couple of weeks ago I was seriously considering not upgrading to Jaguar because of all the tales of woe on this and other Board's. After some reassurance from the great Mac community I went ahead and upgraded after backing up and waiting for a lull in work. I chose just to "upgrade" rather than a clean install or the archive option. The installation was flawless and the system is just as stable as it has ever been. I have a Ti400 so I haven't seen any noticeable speed increase (8mb video card), but it's fast enough and stability creates greater efficiency, in my opinion. I used to crash several times a day with 9. I think I've only had one or two lock ups with OS X and I'm pretty sure Navigator caused both. So, I just wanted to let others know it really isn't that scary out there and I don't think you have to be a superhero and spend all day reformatting and reloading all of your programs and data.

Re: No More Jaguar Blues
I find it refreshing to read somebody posting something positive for a change.

Usually, people that don't have a problem, don't bother telling the world about it. My guess is that they are the majority rather than the minority as these forums may lead someone to believe.

I also upgraded without a clean install on my 3 macs (two of them from 10.1.5, the other from 9.2.2). I have had no problem whatsoever.

Running disk repair from the CD (just in case) has found some permissions to fix but I didn't notice any change apart from a slightly faster boot time.

All in all a very positive experience. I am more than a bit annoyed at the ranting I read here from people that seem to find it easier to complain on the forum than trying to fix their problem. Gives me very little incentive to help them.

All this to say thank you to holydaypf for bringing something positive to the forum.

Same here; installed mine on top of 10.1.5 and so far everything's smooth with no problems. I don't notice any speed increase either, except for being a little faster on bootup.

Re: No More Jaguar Blues
I'm also a happy boy, and I do see some serious speed increases on both my Macs.

Now bring on the update, and let's see more speed!

Re: No More Jaguar Blues
I too sing the praises of Jaguar. The only problem I had was ICQ would not work. So I did an "update" install, letting it pull the old system out..and it works perfectly.

The cat is very quick on my 933!

Re: No More Jaguar Blues
I responded to the "Jaguar Blues" post a couple of weeks back with my own fears of upgrading my trusty old beige G3.

233mhz w/Encore G4/400 upgrade, Xclaim VR 128 video card, IBM 45GB HD, QueFire 12/10/32 CDRW, Intuos 2 tablet, and a few other Frankenstein parts...

As Dog as my witness, it feels like I just bought a new machine!
Quicktime and iTunes w/ full screen visuals now play smooth as silk!
50 minute Archive and Install and EVERYTHING works without a hitch! (Except my Epson 1520 printer... still. Can you say "upyoursepson"?)
I take back everything I was thinking about Steve Jobs this past year...
WAY TO GO APPLE!
I haven't been this happy since I first bought this machine!

Re: No More Jaguar Blues
Hey, the cat is fairly fast on my 400MHz G3.

I'm happy with Jaguar. There are a few bugs, but in general, I'm pleased with the update.
