aol mail error

Recently I started experiencing a funny error in starting aol. I had 10.2.2 (which I have updated to 10.2.3), and had not installed any new software that I can recall when aol started having the following problem: AOL would start and not be able to find the "mail tool" and give me an error=-39. Downloading and reinstalling aol did not help - I could check email but as soon as I quit aol and restart another time, I would then get the above mail error. Updating to 10.2.3 did not help. Logging in to OS X as another user hasn't helped.
Has anyone had a similar problem?

I'm having the exact same problem (see below): I've tried everything, even called AOL Tech Support, who TRIED to help, but didn't solve the problem.

Out of curiosity, do AOL state that AOL X (they've only issued one release of it) supports Panther?
As crappy as it ran on Jag, I just wonder if it doesn't need some tweaking for Panther.
