Graphic/Video card upgrade for G5

Need HELP!

...a little help from the experts. I currently have the following...

Aperture 2

Dual Processor 1.8 GHz Power Mac G5

  • Dual 1.8 GHz 64-bit PowerPC G5;
  • Dual independent 900 MHz front-side buses;
  • 4GB RAM DDR SDRAM
  • 160GB Serial ATA 7200 rpm hard drive;
  • AGP 8X Pro graphics slot;
  • NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64MB DDR SDRAM;
  • 3 PCI-X slots (one 64-bit, 133 MHz, two 64-bit 100 MHz); and
  • 4x SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW).

My question is - Graphic/Video card upgrade. -- Should I buy the ATI RADEON 9600 PRO that I found on http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435065/ or are there any other suggestions?

I'm a bit clueless with this. I just upgraded to 4GB RAM DDR SDRAM, but Aperture isn't running like I hoped.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Manny

Re: Graphic/Video card upgrade for G5
I have a Dual Processor 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5. My video card is the ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition. I originally had the Nvidia 5200 FX. The X800 was a huge improvement over the 5200.

The X800 is the best AGP card you can buy for the Mac. Actually, the X850 is the best AGP card; however; it was only a BTO option from Apple. Take a look at Barefeats to see how the X800 compares to the other AGP cards.

If you intend to keep your PowerMac for a long time, then I suggest you get a X800. Well, that's assuming you can find one and afford it.

If you intend to upgrade to a newer computer anytime soon, then I suggest you get the 9800 Pro.

-Hi,

Is this card too expensive: {Video Card}

Not sure where you live, but The Mac Guys here in So. CA have a few parts and have been around the block w/ Macs. You could call them or email your question. They've been very helpful in the Mac community and MUG (Mac User Groups)
