I do wish Apple let you sync the audio portions of music videos via auto-sync to iPods that don't play video.

You can get video's on the black and white iPod's too. It's called iPodLinux.

You can also use Audacity in combination with Soundflower to record sound coming from a Mac. Both are free and open source.

You can play videos on your 1st gen ipod, because so can I. The way to do this is to first visit Rockbox.org and learn about their free alternate software systems for systems like ipods. Some of the newest software allows playing mpeg-1 video and I was surprised by the actually good buffer speed for the videos. Anyways Rockbox is a lot of work but I would say the alternate OS is worth the trouble of getting it onto the ipod
