iTunes Movies Questions

iTunes has just introduced Movies to Canada. I have some questions about how this works. If I purchase a movie through iTunes what can I play it on? Can I burn it to a DVD or CD so I can play it on my TV or do I need AppleTV to play a purchased movie?

How does it work with rented movies? Do rented movies expire after a certain period of time? If so, how long is it good for? What can I play rented movies on? Can I burn a rented movie? Do I need AppleTV to play a rented movie?

Re: iTunes Movies Questions
Rented movies are for 30 days, but after you start playing it you have 24 hours to finish it, after one of the time periods ends then the file disappears.

Re: iTunes Movies Questions
You cannot just drag the iTunes movie to iDVD or whatever. The DRM (Digital
Rights Management) copy protection inhibits that option.

You would need to remove the DRM from the movie, then use Toast or iDVD or
whatever to burn a DVD. I don't think we have that ability.

There are some Mac and Windows apps that claim to remove DRM from iTunes
movies. I don't know about the Windows side, but the apps on the Mac side are
from, shall I say, less than reputable vendors.

Rule of thumb: if you see an interesting app, look to see if it is listed in the
reputable sources like versiontracker.com or Amazon.

No, you can't burn a rented movie, either.

You can, of course, capture the video as it is playing (say with Snapz Pro
or an appropriate camcorder) but the quality will suffer.

Re: iTunes Movies Questions
You can put it into iMovie first though.
