Hi,
thanks for the information about the 1.1.4 update being installed even without paying for it... I didn't make myself clear... I helped a friend in March and probably after installing the software it asked us if we wanted to buy the upgrade. Now with my touch it doesn't seem to offer this option. I tried plugging/unplugging the touch; nothing happened. I also tried to find the software in the itunes store or at apple.com but it wasn't listed anywhere.
My train of thought is once they announced 2.0 they yanked the 1.1.4 app update and will offer that with the 2.0 software... I know this is wishful thinking but as I can't find the link...
Any ideas, or maybe I'm just an idiot and somebody can point me to the link..
Thanks,
Phillyman

Well, I had the idea of restoring my iPod and then checking for the paid updates, but it just restored it and slapped the 1.1.4 update onto it without asking if I wanted to pay the $20 for the newer applications. I wonder if Apple took took this upgrade away from us poor early iPod Touch purchasers.
Jon Seff, please rescue us... How can we get those applications onto our Touches?

Sorry, I've been on vacation.
My guess is that Apple pulled the 1.1.4 paid update because the 2.0 software update (which will be cheaper, btw) will probably include those apps as well. Can't say for sure, but that's what I'm thinking. Wait another week and a half and I'm sure Apple will have an answer.

oh my oh my;
I called apple a couple of days later and asked this question. They gave me the same answer as Chris Breen wrote. Sorry that I forgot to add this to my thread... I should have updated it with the answer. Thanks macworld/Jon for staying on top of this and going back to an old forum post to link to the article. It's the details that count and make me come back for advice, news to macworld.com and why I'm still a subscriber!
