Buy Mac Pro now or later?

I'm tempted to buy a Mac Pro right now with the free ipod deal (I don't need one, I'd just sell it). However, I heard that Apple typically brings Mac Pro updates AFTER the ipod promotion, is this true? If so, should I wait for a Mac Pro? I don't need one right now, but then again waiting is hard.

Also, should I wait for Snow Leopard? Is SL also going to be free update or something I'll have to buy?

If you wait for Snow Leopard, then you wait might be a while. It is not supposed to be available according to rumors/"timelines" until next year as I understand it.

And you will have to buy it...unless you buy your Mac after it has been officially released but the Mac you bought was originally still shipped with Leopard (i.e. the Mac was manufacturered/shipped to the reseller before Snow Leopard was available).

As to when to buy the Mac Pro...buy it when you really need it or want it. Trying to predict when Apple will drop prices or "refresh" line ups is a lot like trying to predict the weather...a lot of people will try and a lot will fail. If you really want to try to predict anything, then you can always look at the Buyer's Guide on MacRumors.com (http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/). It is about as good as any "crystal ball" out there (which is not good at all), but it does give you some guidance on Apple's trends and patterns, which can give a general indication of what might be in the works. But, believe at your own risk...
