Re: Google releases instant messaging web client for iPhone
This article does not mention that there is 1 significant limitation to the interface: you get set as "unavailable" as soon as you do, pretty much, anything else on your iPhone - including switching to the iPod interface, open another browser window, open the calendar, etc... This obviously does not replace SMS on the iPhone.

Now that we know that Google collected our IP addresses and everything we ever watched on YouTube and is handing it over to ViaCom does anyone really want to use Google for private messaging? Not me!!!

Re: Google releases instant messaging web client for iPhone

I tried it (just like I try a lot of Google things - but most of Google things are crap).

It's not even close to being something like SMS ...

you have to have the keyboard pop up and then you have to dismiss the keyboard (extra step)

But it does bring up the .gmail accounts and looks cool but I'm not going to use it over SMS.

Doesn't Google Talk use the same protocols as iChat? Perhaps that angle is of more interest since Apple has not yet brought iChat to the iPhone and iPod touch.

I totally agree! I will not be trusting google for anything anymore... its sad too because they really are innovative for the most part. to think these guys wanted my health info for their health app!

Thanks but no thanks Goog.

Be careful what you search for now... thats for sure! If you have a Britney Spears fetish... how long before google starts selling "Do employee background checks by find out what your employees search for!"

Hmmm...

To those saying they will never use/trust/like Google again, I say "stop being idiots." A court could compel Yahoo, Myspace, or even Macworld to reveal personal info just as easily as it has Google. Viacom is who you should be griping about.

Thank you! These people griping about Google rather than Viacom are almost as foolish as the children that constantly bash on Apple rather than the record companies for making their favorite iTunes tracks "Album Only."
