email/web hosting... Who/what, etc. should I go with???

HI,

This might be the wrong place to ask, but then again this is my main support forum so I thought I would give it a try...
I've been toying with the idea of getting my own domain (for the whole family) and using it mainly as an email service for family. I feel it's more important than ever to have an easy to remember address for personal maybe even business use down the road.

I've figured out how to register but am a little stumped on who/what I should go with after that.. I'd prefer an easy to use service which somebody could recommend in terms of ease of use, good uptime and fair price.

Here my rough idea, feel free to add any suggestions, ideas, experiences if you've set something similar up for your family. As I have NO IDEA I'd really be grateful for any feedback.

I would like to be able to setup numerous email accounts, they should have webmail access and also POP and if possible IMAP support. I would like to send attachments of up to 20 MB (not a deal breaker but it would be nice). Online storage for email again I don't know a couple of 100 MB for each account?.

Webhosting is at the moment not an issue as I have neither the time nor the desire to set something up but if I already am making the jump I might as well cover my bases or can I get only emailhosting?

As for storage, I might like to use ftp or something like that for backups, again only an idea, it would be nice to have something like idisk...

I haven't looked into it but I am correct that I can't use mobileme/apple to host my domain and use their push services? Yes, I do realize I could forward my mail to me.com or retrieve it through POP on my ipod touch..

These are my ideas, foolish, good idea, barking up the wrong tree? Mainly I would also like recommendations for a hosting company. I've seen the godaddy.com ads but find them just plain stupid but that is about the extent of hosting companies I know.

I would register my own domain with a foreign country/registrar (European). Am I correct to assume that makes no difference to the hosting company ?

Thanks for any and all help/feedback,

Phillyman

PS: For everyone in the states, happy fourth of July, enjoy the barbecues/picnics across the country!

I would suggest that you start with the mini moo plan at

and then work your way up to a bigger account.
