This app is a no brainer download. Really works. Ever been in the other room and want to control iTunes? Just use this app.

Amazing!!!

Quick Note... Does not seem to work if you have an external Bluetooth module. My remote shows up in the 2 laptops at my office, but not on my Mac Pro with the external bluetooth dongle.

I think you missed one really important feature and that is the ability to select the remote speakers to play your library through.

This means you can sit in your lounge, browse your entire music collection in your hand, and play it through your home entertainment system via the Apple TV (or Airport Express). Brilliant!

This will be great for controlling the music while at the pool. Just need a water proof, uh, resistant cover for my iTouch though.

Re: Remote lets you control iTunes from iPhone, iPod touch
This is nothing new. Five months ago, I installed a program called Signal on my mac. I then use my iphone's web browser to access itunes on my mac and have complete control.

If I turn the phone sideways, it turns, though not cover flow style. To make it easy, I put a shortcut on my home screen to access iTunes via wifi.

The only thing new is that apple has a dedicated app for it and that it is free. Signal is trialware and cost me $20 to keep using and having full access to my library.

I found out the hard way the if you have your firewall settings to "Allow only essential services," it will not work for you. How should I add an exception to reactivate my firewall. I tried adding itunes but that is clearly not the app that is trying to connect to itunes; if that makes sense to anyone.

I've been using Signal for many months and it works great:

This is the thing that bugs me about Apple, releasing free apps that harms their developers.

You have to admit they're not as bad as that other OS company we all know so well. The thing that I really like about Remote is it's not a web app. Having developed web apps for the iPhone I can say from experience that native beats web anytime (yes, I've gotten "Hello World" to work in the iPhone Dev Kit).

"Requires iPhone 2.0 software update". No update available for iPod Touch at this time (18:00 GMT July 10).

"The Now Playing screen gives you full screen album art, previous and next track buttons, and a play/pause control, as well as a volume slider "

Maybe I'm dense, but I'm not seeing a volume slider. When i tap the album art i see a slider that lets me adjust the playhead forward or back, but I can't find a volume control. How did you get it to show up?

Re: Remote lets you control iTunes from iPhone, iPod touch
I have followed the directions specified above and cannot get remote to work on iPhone. I updated to 2.0 and iTunes 7.7

When I click the remote app on iPhone I see the code but no iPhone under devices.

iPhone and macbook are both on the same network.

Any thoughts?

Hooray for everyone using Remote app with iTunes. Glad it works.

On the other hand if you are using it with your Apple TV, you will find that unless you've spent 2 days syncing your 200GB iTunes library to your 40 GB Apple TV, Remote app is completely useless. Remote app doesn't support Apple TV with a shared iTunes library. All your movies, music, videos and playlists have to be located on your Apple TV.

If this program were created 5 years ago, everything would have worked seamlessly with each other. These days Apple seems to have an "Eh.... we'll work on it next year" attitude.

Not true. I'm using it with my Apple TV right now, with no music content synced to the appetv. It's all streaming from itunes on my mac.
