Can't change my desktop picture!

Hey guys!

I've been using Leopard for 2 months now (lucky transition from xp) but I've just came across the following issue.

I changed the desktop picture to another one and I'm now unable to swicth it back to any other picture.

Everytime I do change it it the system preferences the previous one always comes back after I restart the system or log off and then log on again

I'd be glad for any suggestions that might help (tried reparing permissions but to no avail!)...


Does someone know how to fix that?

Hi there

Maybe You have to Repair Disk Permission with the Disk Utility App or with Onyx.

And just for the test, Please open the iPhoto and choose a picture and select that one
and then go to Share --> Set Desktop.
Check it after restart...

I've just tried that but it didn't help!

As to permissions I had tried that before I tried setting up the picture using iPhoto but it didn't help...

What exactly is your Leopard version?

And what kind of computer do You have?

MacBook 2,4ghz intel core duo, 2gb ram, 160gb hd with the latest updates (10.5.4)

Try this.

Go to your "User" folder, "Library", "Preferences" and look for com.apple.desktop.plist and delete it. Reboot then see if you can choose a new Desktop picture using the method you prefer, either in iPhoto or in Preferences.

I did and it didn't work!
This time when I change the picture and reboot 'aurora'-the default mac picture always comes back!
I getting really vexed! I though that Leopard was far more stable and now it seems to me that it is not so...
What do I do next?

So there are a couple of pictures that appear: When you are restarting your machine there is a picture and then when you've finally ended up in your account there is a background picture - which one are you talking about exactly?

I was talking about the latter. But I've just accidentally solved the issue. Some time ago I've installed an application that shows you a live picture of the earth (it's called earth desktop or smth.) Anyway I wasn't using it for some time (it was turned off) but upon cleaning up the unused apps on my mac today I decided to remove it and when i did it also solved the desktop problem. So it seems to me that the app was the culprit. It must have messed up with the configuration files. Now I'm very happy having reclaimed my desktop :)

I solved the problem by deleting an application which was causing it.
