Antispywaremaster???

I'm newish to the Macs and last night I was on wikipedia trying to get a picture. At some point a window popped up for antispywaremaster. I realized it was a spyware program pretty quickly and didn't knowingly download anything. Is anybody familiar with this spyware and the affect it has on Macs, if any. i did read something on Wiki Security but the site didn't seem legit, so I don't trust what I read. They seemed to be selling some program called Spy Hunter.

Re: Antispywaremaster???
I've gotten the same thing, except it was when i clicked on my "comments" in myspace. I'm not sure if the crap is on my computer already or was just a potential virus if I clicked ok to "scan computer now". RWBOND....DO NOT TRUST SPY HUNTER. My father inlaw fell for that crap. He paid for it actually lol. It's a scam. I wish the mac community would stop believing that mac's are free from this type stuff. What ever you do don't install norton anti-virus. It is harder to get off your computer than a virus. It's the worst, slowest crap ever.

Re: Antispywaremaster???
I have it on my MacBook. Keeps popping up and trying to force a virus scan, which I kill. Still trying to see if it's came from Safari or Firefox. How do you get it off the system?

Re: Antispywaremaster???
It would be nice if someone out there who knew about mac security could comment on this. I can't find any info on this other than a few questions when I do a google search. Rather than pretending this doesn't happen on macs, why doesn't Apple try to figure out why this is happening and how to prevent it/remove it.

I called Apple tech support; they are of no help as usual. Your lucky if they even speak proper english. Some say don't use an anti virus because it will only needlessly slow down your system and some say it is necessary. Are there any good spyware stopping programs for mac? Are there any good anti-virus programs for mac? I know norton got good reviews. I fell for that one. It is the worst program ever made. I removed it and still have norton crap all over my system. I even called their tech support to make sure I got all of the files from my computer. I guess they are too stupid to know how to get their own program off of a system.

Re: Antispywaremaster???
I too am wondering about antispyware/antivirus programs for MAC. Avast has a program out there that seems decent but again, not a lot of good advice out there yet. I am not impressed by the "don't worry about it" approach. Once more people and more importantly business switch to apple more hackers will become interested in hacking the interface. I say lets get proactive and figure out the best way to protect from this.

Re: Antispywaremaster???
You know, the spyware/popups are no longer active on my system. Makes me wonder if this is spyware or really just some kind of specialized popup that knows how to over ride the pop up blocker? Regardless, I think the popups are specific to a web site I must have visited, but when I killed Safari and Firefox and restarted....problem gone.

Re: Antispywaremaster???

But what is this antispywaremaster.com? the only way I got rid of it's pop-up window, which I thought I blocked all, was to Force Quit Safari. Is there something wrong with Safari, does it attract this type of attack? Is thee a security patch that I've missed?

Re: Antispywaremaster???
Yeah, I'm getting pop-ups quite a bit, even though I have pop-up blocker turned on. How hard is it to write a technology to prevent any new windows from popping up unless I tell them to?
