Good stuff but Intuit's priority is highly messed up when it can release iPhone web app before it can get desktop web app to function on browsers other than Internet Explorer.

I will NEVER run any software that requires Internet Explorer. PERIOD.

I've been waiting for 3 years for Intuit to upgrade their Mac version of QuickBooks to run a simple USB credit card reader.

Intuit just doesn't get it.

Special notice to Macintosh users:
QuickBooks Online only works on Windows with the Internet Explorer browser. We encourage you to return to our website using another computer. Or you can learn about QuickBooks Pro for Mac.

Sounds like a great service...for PC users with iPhones. Intuit has a very spotty history with serving Mac users, so I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Intuit rolls out web-based QuickBooks Online interface for iPhone
I was going to try and switch our Mac Quickbooks to QB Online, because of how appalling the Mac version of the software was. When I found out it was IE only I decided it was time to find a whole new solution completely! IE has gone from bad to worse, not following any W3C standards and they have lost a huge # of market share to Firefox, why would a company decide to go solely IE!?!?! Seems obvious that the Intuit's head tech people only know IE development and there customer support is awful, it's pathetic. I have been looking into MYOB AccountEdge and for my personal stuff I have given up Quicken and use mint.com, which I love! Intuit is dead to me.

I gave up on Quicken quite a while ago. I've been using Mint.com for the past few months and find it does everything I need to do in a much more intuitive manner than Intuit's offerings.

Just out of curiosity, is there a technical reason or incentive for Intuit to restrict to IE?

Re: Intuit rolls out web-based QuickBooks Online interface for iPhone
I think the reason is that they don't have the technical expertise required to debug for all browsers. Generally, sites of this caliber are developed for the modern W3C standards and then degraded to work in IE, but they seem to be doing it backwards. They have been building Mac products for many years, but it's obvious that they don't have staff apt in doing so, nor do they attempt to find them. It seems that their tech staff is very PC centric which probably worked just fine for them for many years, but now that the Mac platform has seen so much growth of late, they are trying to play catch-up.

That makes sense.

I just wondered if ActiveX figured into the IE only situation.

Re: Intuit rolls out web-based QuickBooks Online interface for iPhone
I've been using Quickbooks Online on a MacBook Pro using Parallels for over 18 months now and love it. The only issues I've had are occasional printing glitches. I have been using the Quickbooks iPhone app since early spring and have found it extremely useful. While it would be great to have Quickbooks Online accessible through the Mac OS, it is certainly functional through Parallels. (It's the reason was able to justify purchasing my current MacBook Pro back in Feb. 2007!)

I'm having difficulties getting Quickbooks Pro 2009 to run on parallels. Has anyone made this work. Intuit won't even talk to me about it.
