iTunes quits unexpectedly

We recently upgraded to iTunes 8.0, and after my wife plugged in her shuffle to recharge it, we haven't been able to launch the app; any time we attempt, we immediately get the dialog box "iTunes quit unexpectedly." We're not having any problems at all with other such programs as iMovie, iDVD, or iPhoto.

I've tried every possible fix I can think of: trashing iTunes preferences, reinstalling 8.0, trashing QuickTime preferences, reinstalling QuickTime 7.5.5, and repairing disk permissions and restarting after every such manipulation. Even when I remove 8.0 completely and reinstall 7.7.1 (which worked perfectly before), the same thing happens (and that's before and after trashing preferences, etc). I'm completely at a loss, and I hope someone might have additional insight into this issue.

If it helps, I've attached what looks like the pertinent portion of the report generated by the crash. I've already dutifully sent a couple incarnations of it to Apple, but as they indicate when they ask you to send them, they won't respond directly to the message. We're using OS 10.4.11 on an iMac G5 1.9 GHz.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I am having the same exact problem as you with itunes.

Have you found a solution yet as I am pulling my hair out removing, reinstalling, etc., etc.

Appreciate any help you can offer.
