Entourage vs Mail/iCal/Address Book

What are the pros and cons of using MS Entourage versus the parallel applications provided with Mac OS X?

Re: Entourage vs Mail/iCal/Address Book
Here are a few reasons that I prefer entourage over the apple apps. . .

One application for Mail, contacts and calendar - fully integrated.
Syncing with a Palm device is easier / simpler.
More comprehensive contact management information options.
Easier to back up - just copy and store the identity file / data somewhere safe
Notes, tasks / to do's, and Project management are included with entourage.

Entourage is a much more detailed and robust application that covers Mail, calendars and contact management and offers full integration of these 3 important areas and offers project management and integration with word for letters, label printing etc.

IMHO - the only downside is the price.

Re: Entourage vs Mail/iCal/Address Book
Speaking of Entourage and Apple's Address Book app, is there any easy way to do an data import? I just bought Office 2004 and would like to use Entourage exclusively, but I can't for the life of me figure out if there's a way to import my contacts into Entourage.

Is there an easy way to do this aside from manually re-entering my data? Something along the lines of a shareware utility perhaps, or is there a hidden feature in Entourage that I'm overlooking?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Entourage vs Mail/iCal/Address Book
Open Entourage preferences > Sync Services. There you'll see options for Address Book, iCal and .Mac. Mind you, this isn't a straight import - it's a sync - your Entourage address listings will now appear in your Apple Address Book and vice versa.

To the OP - I prefer Entourage for the reasons listed in the second post also.

Exactly the answer I was looking for. It works too, thanks so much!

Once they've synced you could then stop using Address Book, correct?

Yes.
If you do update the Address Book again after the initial sync, just re-sync periodically to keep everything up to date.
If you're just making edits and changes directly in Entourage, then no need to re-sync.

Re: Entourage vs Mail/iCal/Address Book
Hi,

I've had a similar problem. I use Entourage X and my address book got wiped somehow. I've managed to keep hold of most of them as they're in an online Plaxo addressbook. I can sync Plaxo with Address Book but I it's not possible with Entourage.

I've installed & run Sync Entourage-Address Book but each time I run the programme it seems to be going fine then I get that 'application unexpectedly quit' error message.

Entourage X doesn't have the sync option in its preferences options that you previously advised (or I just can't find it!), is there anything else I can do?
Thanks,
Adelle

Have a look at the suggestions listed on the following site:

Re: Entourage vs Mail/iCal/Address Book
Entourage has this strange aspect that includes an "Address Book" on the computer and then a "Contacts" from my exchange server. They do not appear to be identical, the "Contacts" is the one syncing with iCal and therefore my iPhone (can't wait for exchange support on the iPhone). Any way to eliminate the strange duplication of Address Book? Thanks.

Actually, I believe it might be the other way around...at least it is that way in Outlook on the Windoze platform...Contacts are your locally stored/individual contacts/addressbook that you enter in yourself and the Addressbook is meant primarily to hold the network/Exchange addressbook entries that the Exchange server admin/IT people create and maintain (you can actually add individual entries to Addressbook locally in Outlook, but it is not nearly as useful as Contacts as it does not snyc with PDAs and smartphones and the like).
